Abstract

Tra catfish (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus [Sauvage, 1878]) cultured in Vietnam is one of the most important products for export to international market such as U.S.A., Japan and Europe. The bacterial isolation was conducted from pond-cultured Tra catfish in the provinces with intensive culture system. There were a total of 97 isolates from 65 diseased fish. Sixty-six isolates from 97 isolates were identified by biochemical tests. They were consisted of Edwardsiella ictaruli (58 isolates [87.9%]), Aeromonas hydrophila (2 isolates [3.03%]) and 6 unidentified isolates (9.07%). Antibiotic sensitivity test was also conducted to determine the drugs that could be used to control these two bacteria. Effective drugs that showed good sensitivity against E. ictaluri were ciprofloxacin, amoxycillin and ampicillin, florfenicol, doxycycline and oxytetracycline (in order of number of isolates that showed sensitive). Two isolates of Aeromonas hydrophila were sensitive to sulphamethoxazole, ciprofloxacin, oxytetracycline, enrofloxacin, erythromycin, sulphamethoxazole/trimethoprim, doxycycline and florfenicol.

Abstract

Manganese sulfide (MnS2) thin films were deposited from aqueous solutions at room temperature on indium tin oxide glass substrates by the chemical bath deposition method. The method employed was cheap, simple and did not require any special set-up process. The chemical bath contained manganese sulphate, thiourea and triethanolamine solutions. The effect of various solution concentrations on crystalline films was determined. The structure, morphology and optical absorption of the films were analysed using X-ray diffraction, atomic force microscopy and UV/Vis spectrophotometry. Formation of a cubic structure with preferential orientation along the (210) plane was confirmed from structural analysis. From atomic force microscopy images, the thin films prepared at higher concentration showed complete coverage of material over the substrate compared to the films prepared at lower concentration. The band gap energies of films ranged from 3.5 to 3.8 eV, depending upon the solution concentration.

Abstract

Cassava root fiber was used as a bio-reinforcement in a polymer composite. A composite of polypropylene (PP) and polybutylene succinate (PBS) with cassava root fiber was prepared on a twinscrew extrusion. Maleic anhydride-polypropylene (MAPP) compatibilizer was used to improve the interfacial strength between the fibers and the polymer matrix. The effects of untreated fiber content and compatibilizer on the mechanical properties of composite were investigated. An increase in fiber loading increased the Young’s modulus and flexural modulus, indicating higher stiffness in the fiber-filled composites, whereas the tensile strength and flexural strength decreased. The addition of MAPP compatibilizer in the PP composite with 50% fibers improved the flexural strength to a higher level than pure PP, therefore giving rise to a stronger but less flexible material. Studies with a scanning electron microscope revealed better interfacial adhesion between the fibers and the polymer matrix in the composite containing MAPP compatibilizer. Thermogravimetric analysis showed that the thermal stability and degradation temperature of PP composites increased with the presence of MAPP, suggesting enhanced interfacial interaction and compatibility due to the treatment of compatibilizer.

หัวเรื่อง:ไม่มีชื่อไทย (ชื่ออังกฤษ : The Influence of Serum Concentration on tPA Production of CHO Cell)

ผู้เขียน:ImgTeerapatr Srinorakutara, ImgJin-Ho Jang, ImgMutsumi Takagi, ImgToshiomi Yoshida

Abstract

The effect of initial serum concentration on cell growth, and the production of tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) is investigated across batch fermentation of a Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) growing in newborn calf serum (NCS) medium. It was found that initial serum concentration influenced on CHO cell growth rate and cell yield. At high-serum content, the uptake rate of glucose decreased although the specific growth rate was higher, indicating a serum component becoming growth limiting. An average glucose uptake rate in 10% (v/v) NCS medium was 13.84 mg/106 cells/h as in 1% (v/v) NCS medium was 18.17 mg/106 cells/h. It was also found that the tPA or the maximum tPA productions increased with initial serum concentration. At 7.12% NCS, the maximum tPA production gave the highest value (5.55 mg/l). The effect of initial serum concentration on the main product was similar to that of major by-product (e.g. lactate and ammonia).

หัวเรื่อง:ไม่มีชื่อไทย (ชื่ออังกฤษ : Reproductive Strategy and Occurence of Gametophytes of Thai Laver Porphyra vietnamensis Tanaka et Pham-Hoang Ho (Bangiales, Rhodophyta) from Songkhla Province)

Abstract

Reproductive strategy and occurrence of gametophyte phase of Thai laver Porphyra vietnamensis Tanaka et Pham-Hoang Ho were investigated to provide further information for aquaculture. The study was weekly evaluated in two localities of rocky dike; Leam Son-on and Ban Pak Bang Sakhom in Songkhla province during October 1999 to March 2000. Gametophytes, 1.48 (? 0.18) cm in length and 0.42 (? 0.05) cm in width, were visually appeared in early December on the upper level of the dike of both stations. The mature thalli were linear, broad linear or lanceolate, 4.49 (? 0.58) cm in length and 0.75 (? 0.18) cm in width. Speramatangia and zygotosporangia were generally observed from the same plant in early January with size of 10.78 (? 1.68) cm in length and 1.40 (? 0.11) cm in width. Most of them were linear, broad linear or lanceolate in shape. Spermatangial division was 64 (a/4, b/4, c/4) and 32 (a/2, b/4, c/4). While, zygotosporangia division was 8(a/2, b/2, c/2). Biomass was increased to 5.79 and 5.77 g wet weight /100 cm2 at Leam Son-on and Ban Pak Bang Sakhom respectively. Archeosporangia were observed in small thalli, 1-3.8 cm in length and 1.1-1.5 cm in width, in late March. The occurrence of gametophytic phase of P. vietnamensis from the two sampling stations was similar. The new populations could be observed at both stations during the sampling time.

Abstract

Dried wampee becomes a well known preserved product of Nan province. The effects of 4 drying conditions on qualities of dried wampee were evaluated. Chosen drying conditions were hot air drying at 60?C, hot air drying at 45?C, vacuum drying at 45?C, and sun drying. Experiment on drying process revealed that drying times of drying conditions stated to reach 14 % (wb) moisture content were 17, 42, 50, and 32 h, respectively. The total change in product color, DE were observed to be 21.49, 13.72, 6.61, and, 12.75, respectively. Vacuum drying at 45?C, with 6.61 DE gave the best color of dried wampee but took the longest drying time. Sun drying had 12.75 DE which was reasonably good color and also had reasonable time of drying (32 h). Fifty consumer evaluation on these products using 9-points hedonic scale indicated that sun-dried wampee was the most significantly preferred product with 7.1 of overall acceptance. Analysis of the essential oils by GC-MS, obtained from fresh fruit (0.11%) and sundried fruits (0.50%), found 40 components. The major constituents were sabinene, a-pinene, and 1-phellandrene.
